Church Clean Up Saturday and Webelo Cross over on Monday

We have our traditional Plymouth Church grounds clean-up scheduled for this coming Saturday, March 31st. We will try to make the church property look neater in preparation for Easter Sunday.  We will pick up leaves and fallen branches, sweep up the pathways and whatever else we can find. We will start work at 9:00am and work until 12:00pm. We have just held a successful fundraiser in the church hall, so it is fitting that we do something for the church in return.

Please bring along gloves, rakes, stiff brooms and anything else that might come in useful. All Scouts are expected to participate in this service project.

Don't forget that next Monday evening we will be participating in the crossing-over ceremony for the Senior Webelos from Pack 12, all of whom earned their Arrow of Light Award.  This means we will be welcoming 11 new members into Troop 12. They are looking forward to many adventures and forming friendships with the Scouts in Troop 12. They have lots of enthusiasm, so let's give them a rousing welcome. Please arrive by 6:45pm. The Crossing-Over ceremony will start at about 7:00pm.

Swim Night

Scoutmasters Update 3/22/2012

Please remember that next Monday night will be swim night at the Atkinson Pool in Sudbury. I have attached the permission slip and directions on how to get there. Please contact Mr Weber if you have any further questions. You could also ask about the swim night at the Pancake Breakfast on Saturday. Please bring the signed permission slip with you on Monday night.

This coming Saturday, March 24th, is our annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser. All Scouts are expected to attend and help out.


Please arrive at the church at 7:00am on Saturday morning. You will get the chance to eat some pancakes after we finish setting the tables and getting everything ready. We will start serving our wonderful supporters at 7:30am.  Don't forget the bake sale. Bring something along to sell. All proceeds help to support your Scout Troop.

Train Show Plans

I would like to remind everybody about the model train show this coming Saturday, March 17th. We will meet at Plymouth Church at 11:00am and will be heading out at 11:30am. Please let either Mr Fitzpatrick or me know if you will be attending. We have places in our vehicles for seven Scouts, so we need to know in advance how many Scouts will be attending to make sure that we have adequate vehicle space.

These train shows are interesting on many levels. The engineering side of my brain likes the techno wizardry that people use to create realistic noises and to control the complex movements of multiple trains on interconnected tracks. The other side of my brain, which does not get used very much, appreciates the intricate and artistic details that some people incorporate into their lay outs and buildings. There are always subtle features that you miss at first glance. The people displaying their lay outs like nothing better than to discuss their artistry and hobby. To some of these people it is not a hobby, it is more of a life consuming passion.

The Railroading Merit Badge is quite an easy badge to achieve. Take advantage of this opportunity to get your first or another badge. This is also a fun day out.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you will be attending. Bring along a bag lunch or some snacks to eat. Bring along $10 for the admission fee and some extra money for post-snack snacks and drinks. We should be back on the road by about 3:30pm.

February Camping Trip Update! Change of Location!

Hello,

I have made the decision to hold this weekend's camping trip at Nobscot. 
We did not have enough drivers to drive everybody up to Hemenway.  Also 
the ice on the lakes is very variable in that part of New Hampshire, so 
we could not guarantee it being safe for our games. The snow coverage 
was not very deep either. I felt that a four hour drive each way to a 
place that might not have the conditions that we need was not worth the 
effort.

Instead, we will go to Nobscot on this Friday night. Please meet in the Inner 
Parking Lot at 6:00pm. We will be sleeping in a cabin that has a 
capacity of 18 people, so bring sleeping pads in case someone has to 
sleep on the floor. I will be sleeping outside somewhere. The meals will 
stay the same, so please buy the food as originally planned.

We will be doing scout skill activities, such as hiking, map reading, 
fire lighting, use of stoves, cooking and perhaps some Geocaching. This 
will be a good opportunity to work on rank requirements for tenderfoot 
and  second class. There will also be time for games and camp fires. We 
will also do a moonlight hike up to Tippling Rock. The fee for this trip 
will be $25 per person.

We will leave at about noon on Sunday. Please come to Nobscot to collect 
your sons.

Please send me an e-mail or give me a call on my cell phone to confirm 
that you have received and understood this message. I had 17 names on 
the list and so I need a response from everybody on the following list;

Please bring your Scout Handbooks, compass, small backpack/day pack and 
good boots. Bring a GPS if you have one and know how to use it.

But most of all, bring along a good sense of fun and a willingness to 
try new things. If you feel you are being forced to come on a trip, then 
don't bother coming. I can't force you to enjoy yourself. I love being 
outdoors. Nobscot is one of the best treasures that scouting has to 
offer and it is owned by our our very own Knox Trail Council.

Does anybody know why we are called the Knox Trail Council?
