3 Mile Island Update

Parents & Scouts,
With the weather we are having I have decided to change a few things.
We will leave from the Shed on Saturday morning at 6 AM SHARP it’s a 2 ½ hour ride.
Please wear the clothing you intend on wearing for the trip to the Island on Saturday.
Be a smart Scout and don’t wear jeans, when they get wet there no good for anything.
Make sure you pack your gear in plastic bags and you put all the bags in a weather proof or weather resistant duffel bag or pack including your sleeping bag. (No external frame packs please) Remember to pack your sleeping bag in a plastic bag before you put it in your duffel bag. You will not need a sleeping pad because we will be sleeping on mattresses in cabins.
Rain gear is a must. It will keep the wind out as well as the rain.
Be prepared for 50 to 70 degree temperatures
If you have questions please call.

See you Saturday morning.

Lake Winnipesaukee Canoe Trip
Depart from Scout Shed at 6:00 am Saturday May 21st, 2011
Return to Scout Shed approximately 4:00pm Sunday May 22nd, 2011

Saturday we will leave the Shed at 6:00 am SHARP, drive to the Marina around 8:00 am to get on the water as early as possible. The Boat ramp we will use gets very busy starting at 8:00 am on the weekends and we don’t want to be caught up in that.
We will camp on Three Mile Island owned and operated by the AMC. Arrival time at the Island will be Saturday morning about 10:00 am. The distance out to the Island is about 2 miles and should take us about an hour. We will set up camp and get ready to have a fun filled day canoeing and water sports. All of your personal belongings should be packed in a waterproof bag. Pack clothing in small individual zip lock bags press the air out of them and seal them up tight. Then put the small bags in the large water proof canoe bag; if the Canoe bag does leak the small bags will keep things dry. Line your stuff sack for your sleeping bag with a trash can liner. Then stuff your sleeping bag into the stuff sack. This way your bag will stay dry. Your sleeping bag is the number one thing to keep dry, you only have one. Keep in mind; pack as light as possible. No external frame back packs should be used on this trip.
Sunday morning we will have a small service project to do for the AMC then we will have the remainder of the morning to ourselves. Departure from the Island should be about 11:00 am and we will have lunch after we pack the cars for home.
Bring spending money for Friday night’s dinner and the trip home.
Be prepared for 40 to 80 degree temperatures.

The cost of the Trip will be $25 Per Scout

We will break up into two patrols. The Island has a lot of small camp areas and we will use two camps on the east side of the Island.
There is no Refrigerator and no store to buy anything on the island so be prepared.
